A picture of the Habitat, looking down to the Annapolis River. The colony
was established in 1604 by a group of French under the leadership of
Pierre du Guast, Sieur de Monts. They were mostly farmers, but the
abundant supply of fish in the Bay of Fundy and the many small animals
of the nearby forests proved invaluable as well. A visit to Port Royal
gives a first hand look at how life was lived in this new world colony.
