The famous statue of Evangeline. This is at Grand-Pre National Historic Park,
the general area from which the Acadians were expelled from their lands and
set adrift in boats by the British beginning in 1755. The Church, built in 1922
on the original site of the Acadian Church, St. Charles des Mines, is actually a
museum where you can find the names of the first Acadian settlers in the area,
as well as models, artifacts and information about the Acadian settlers and their
unique methods of farming. The farmland was reclaimed from the sea and
protected by dyke systems called "aboiteaux".
